This year will be Black Elephant Vintners’ second year at the Winter Sculpture Fair, and we challenge you to find someone more friendly and enthusiastic about their product than co-founder Kevin Swart.

Not your typical wine producer, Franschhoek’s Black Elephant Vintners was born out of synchronicity, fortuitous friendships and a tremendous love for wine. Kevin, his business partner Raymond, and talented wine maker Jacques, are intent on creating authentic, outstanding wines that encompass everything they feel strongly about, and, most importantly, wines that they want to drink. They aim to demystify wines, and offer wine tastings and wine experiences that are happily without the usual pomp and ceremony.

Black Elephant Vintners offers “wine unplugged”, a reference to both Nirvana’s Unplugged album and the grunge band’s intimate relationship with its fans. “At Black Elephant we’re about ‘unplugged sessions’ rather than massive stadium tours,” says Kevin of his by appointment tastings at the cellar. You can expect down-to-earth and unpretentious conversations about wine, life and everything else, and Kevin’s characteristic deep passion and unwavering belief in the product and its story.

The brand reflects an uncompromising and uncomplicated winemaking style that communicates passion and commitment to the process of untainted winemaking – wine for real people. At this year’s fair you’ll find the full Black Elephant range, including their Maiden MCC.
